Do you like your job?
No, this isn't an ad for a career advice page. Its a carry forward of the questions that Deepak asked last night.
Most of our gripes currently is that we need a job to pay our bills. So, in the last year of college you look for a job, any job. Some people do an elimination - they decide that they do not want a technical engineering career. Some others want a something specific like integrated circuits design. The rest are okay with pretty much anything.
So, you are one of those people who has settled on their passion and said "Look, this is also my career." But does the mundaneness and trauma of work life make it less of a passion? Think about it. You love your job but your colleagues are really dumb. Or you make really less. Or you just got passed over for a promotion. It could be any number of things that you value in a career that can down it for you.
Especially the paycheck. This is a world in which people discuss salaries routinely. Google paychecks, trading bonuses and consulting firm salaries are discussed all the freaking time. So if your passion cum career pays you less, is it really possible to say "Yeah, I don't care how much I get paid so long as I eke out a decent living coz I love my job". It ain't that easy.
But I guess the question to ask (as Deepak pointed out) is this - What would you be doing if you solved the money problem? Would you still be working at your current job?

If we all won the lottery in a big way, I can guarantee that less than 10% of us would stay in our jobs. Less than 50% of us would even stay in A job, in fact - the natural inclination of many of us is to goof off forever.
I, for one, will buy a Caribbean island and drink margaritas and write mediocre novels which I will refuse to send out to publishers for the rest of my life. :D

I disagree Nan. A caribbean island would look good for a month, maybe two months, maybe a year. But ultimately there is only so much of a certain thing I can take. I would keep working because I like to and there are a fair few of these kinda people in the world.
And I wasn't simply talking about winning a lottery. You could make just enough money to live a decent livilihood and just do what you like for a living. Buying islands ain't an option then. Working means you would probably still be paid though with not as much regularity.

Hey, nice template. I think I’d goof off for a while, and then do weirdly fake stuff like charity work for a while, before settling down to running my own quiz show :D

Peoples! Thanks! It took me several hours to download and correct :d. Lots of templates I liked but somehow thr would be a picture of a huge butterfly in the template or something.
And I want a golden retriever with droopy ears and soulful eyes that pants when you ask it fetch the ball. :D

i have this idea that your job should be like a wedding gown (ok, girly analogy). it should just be perfect, as in, a voice in your soul has to say so. hahaha.

Oh, i actually am not going through a career crisis. not yet atleast. been at work just for a week. this was just random thoughts with a backdrop of starting work.
i just realise how jobless we are as students. dammit.

actually, if you really come to a situation whereby you do not need to work, you'll find yourself getting dead bored.
Why? Is it because we dont know how to pass time? I think its because we (me at least) just dont know how to pass time without doing anything......or pass time while we have all the time in the world.
For example, look at the filthy rich, they just while away the time doing err.....nothing, but the same thing cannot be said true for most of the mediocre folks out there.They would simple go mad if they have nothing to do :)

Enough money and location of my choice (beach house or villa in Goa, perhaps with my own cashew plantation!), I'd keep my job. Hard to keep up the dedication with so many distractions though, so the *job* may not keep *me* for long.
Btw what is this... one week at work and you're already asking these questions!
